  Whale watching 

  I went out whale spotting today, we took 3 hours to get to where the whales like to hang out. We saw a heap of  sea birds – gannets, puffins, cormorants, gulls, kittiwakes, arctic terns, there were more but I can’t remember their names. Our trips took us past a few islands which had puffin’s living there. I forgot to bring my camera so unfortunately I didn’t get any photos (sorry Fern).

  I saw a group of Harbour porpoises on the way there and on the way  back I saw a Minke Whale (wish I had my camera!). All in all it was a pretty awesome day!

  I love to travel so reading and learning about boats and others countries has made it much easier when I head off on an adventure (I don’t get lost as much and I can fix my boat engine!).

  Some jokes for you! 

  I have some great jokes I heard from my new friends in Iceland, Freyja and Eir. Names often have a meaning to them and Freyja and Eir told me what their names meant (I think this is kinda cool?!)

  Freyja – Her name comes from the Ancient Norse god of love and fertility, responsible for healthy crops, peace, and prosperity.

  Eir – Her name relates to the goddess of healing among the ancient Norse gods, considered the best doctor.

  Here are Freyja and Eir’s NUMBER jokes:

  Scuba Diving was Awesome! 

  The water was amazing, it was crystal clear! We explored some underwater caves and checked out Silfra Lagoon, it is around 120m in diameter and about 5 metres deep. It was so clear that we can see through to the other end. I absolutely loved the dive….very cold but worth it! By the way I didn”t find any treasure down there and we didn’t see many fish either!

  Scuba Dive day 

  Getday, it’s minus 3 degrees here in Iceland. How ya been doing, looking forward to the School Holidays I bet? Have ya checked out the competition page? I’ve decided to have my very own competition each month for the rest of the year, yep the rest of the year. So that means I have heaps of prizes to give away.   My mate Scruttin finally arrived yesterday, he is going to be my dive buddy for my scuba dive at Silfra crack in Thingvellir Lake (you always need a dive buddy when you are scuba diving!!). We’re just about to head off, I’ll tell you all about it in the next couple of days.

  Hello from Iceland- Halló or Góðan daginn 

  Hello or as the Icelander people say – Halló or Góðan daginn. It is 3 °C here in Iceland, yes very cold! It feels alittle strange reading about Posy, Dan and Windermere going snorkeling on the reef when it is so chilly here! But can you believe it, you can dive here in Iceland, yep I am not joking.

  You can dive at Silfra crack in Thingvellir Lake, how cool is that! The temperture is around 2°C – 4°C all year long. The water is really clear because it’s comes from a melting glacier not far away and has traveled through the lava fields before coming out at Thingvellir lake through underground wells.

  You know I love action and adventure sports so I am going to try it out…..do you think there might be some treasure down there somewhere? I think I’ll take a look while I’m there!

  Bolludagur or “Bun Day” in Iceland 

  Did I tell you how much I love sweet stuff!! It is Bolludagur or “Bun Day” today in Iceland, you get to eat cream puffs or “buns”.  Bolludagur is celebrated in Iceland on the Monday two days before Ash Wednesday.

  Today I saw all sorts of different shapes and sizes of buns, filled with cream, jam, and some were even covered with chocolate! I think I might have to stay in Iceland for a whole year, just so I can be here for the next bun day!

  Hmm I wonder if there are any more of those golden jam ones left in the kitchen (they are like rubies and gold), abit of light supper before bed aaahh that would hit the spot…..

  Brrrr it’s sooo cold here! 

  Getday everyone I bet ya been wondering what I have been upto? Well It took a long time to get to Iceland. I arrived yesterday and it took about 6 weeks. I had a few hiccups along the way but I sorted them out (the poor old boat didn’t like those icebergs!) plus I stopped off and caught up with a few friends. If the Secret Forest Folk are reading this Chardie from Mulwim Island says hi and thanks for the great Christmas present Fern!

  I was planning to let you know what was happening along the way but me computer couldn’t pick up a connection that far out to sea. Plus when I did get connected I couldn’t take my gloves off to type because my fingers felt like ice cubes!

  I have moored my boat and I am staying at Jumbun’s house,  I’ll tell you more about that later.  His place has a huge fire and he makes a great Iceland stew…aaahh it sure keeps your belly warm!

  Well it’s been a long day, I think it’s time to get some shut eye, good to talk to you all, I’ll send ya another message soon!

  Iceland here I come! 

  I set sail for Iceland in the early hours of New Years Eve. It was a magical sight watching the sun rise over the ocean casting a spectacular ray of light. It was like the sea had turned into a bed of sparkling diamonds, aahh the sight was like treasure to my eyes. You know, it was at that very moment I knew this adventure would be one to remember for a lifetime.

  Now it’s just me and the wide, empty ocean. Who knows what adventures lay above and beneath this salty sea. I can hardly wait to see where me mighty ship will take me. Iceland here I come!
