  Whale watching 

  I went out whale spotting today, we took 3 hours to get to where the whales like to hang out. We saw a heap of  sea birds – gannets, puffins, cormorants, gulls, kittiwakes, arctic terns, there were more but I can’t remember their names. Our trips took us past a few islands which had puffin’s living there. I forgot to bring my camera so unfortunately I didn’t get any photos (sorry Fern).

  I saw a group of Harbour porpoises on the way there and on the way  back I saw a Minke Whale (wish I had my camera!). All in all it was a pretty awesome day!

  I am in Scotland and planning to visit L… 

  I am in Scotland with my cousins and I am planning to visit Loch Ness tomorrow (to see if I can spot the Loch Ness Monster!).

  I love playing chess with my friends so when I heard there was a really old chess set at the Museum in Scotland I had to take a look. They say the chess pieces probably came from Norway, about AD 1150-1200.

  The chess pieces are made of walrus ivory and whales’ teeth in the forms of seated kings and queens, mitred bishops, knights on their mounts, standing warders and pawns in the shape of obelisks.They were found  in Scotland around 1831, the pieces are still in excellent condition and they don’t seem to have been used much at all.

  Of the 93 pieces, 11 pieces are in Edinburgh at the National Museum of Scotland, and 82 are in the British Museum. They looked amazing!

  Just to let you know I am heading up to the Scottish Highlands tomorrow, I am going on a really long trek and I won’t have access to the internet for a while! So I will have to chat to you in a few weeks time and tell you all my stories.

  Hey Posy, I liked your quote from Dr Suess, I think he is an awesome author. Here is one of his quotes that I really like.

  “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”

  I love to travel so reading and learning about boats and others countries has made it much easier when I head off on an adventure (I don’t get lost as much and I can fix my boat engine!).

  Ocean in a Bottle 

  Erica has sent us an email with a fantastic idea for a Ocean in a Bottle.

  Erica’s Ocean In a Bottle:
  

  Have you always wanted to go to the beach but your not allowed well these days are about to change….
  

  You will need a plastic bottle, blue dye, glitter, sea shells mini, water, sand and plastic creatures.
  

  1. Fill bottle with water half-way and add some sand.

  2. Put the lid on and shake then take lid off and add some blue dye.

  3. Add some blue, aqua, green or white glitter in as well as adding some plastic gems and plastic sea creatures such as an turtle or fish than add some seashells and put on the lid shake and now you have made and ocean in a bottle!

  Why not make your own potions and create spells with them and whisper into the thin air at midnight!!!

  Everyone in the Secret Forest seems to be telling lots of jokes lately and having some great laughs, so I thought I would share some of my riddles with you, hope you like them dudes!

  Riddle 1:
  I don’t have lungs or a chest but I need air. I am not alive but I grow. I don’t have a mouth and I don’t like water. What am I?

  Riddle 2:
  A cowboy rode into town on Friday. He stayed two nights then left on Friday. How could that be?

  Riddle 3:
  What never gets any wetter, no matter how much it rains?

  Riddle 4:
  I am found in the sea and on the land but I don’t walk or  swim. I travel by foot but I am toeless. I’m never far from home. What am I?

  Space Jokes from Willow and Chinka 

  I was sharing Pete’s jokes (from his friends in Iceland) with my good buddy Chinka. Now everyone in the Secret Forest knows Chinka loves a good belly laugh….his laugh is so funny it just brings a smile to your face and it justs makes you want to laugh. You start laughing really, really loud, you get tears in your eyes from laughing and you just can’t stop laughing!

  His laughter makes me feel terrific, I alway go home with a big smile on my dial and even hours later I start laughing just thinking about him!
